New Proposals
Trade associations, manufacturers or other interested parties may wish to submit proposals for new Robust Details. There is a three-stage approval process and a fee is payable for each stage.
1) Registration, including any pre-application testing
An initial application fee is required together with a completed application form and evidence demonstrating that the proposed Robust Detail is likely to meet the required performance criteria. This requires you to undertake an initial set of eight sound tests on site before the application is submitted. If your application is accepted, the test results will count towards the assessment.
On receipt of the application, we will conduct an initial appraisal and, if the proposed Robust Detail meets the specified entry criteria, we will assign a unique Robust Detail reference number and proceed with the assessment.
2) Sound testing on nominated sites where the proposed 'detail' is being used
In this stage, you are required to carry out a further 22 on site test sets. A second fee is then payable to cover the cost of assessment and administration.
You need to notify us of each the 22 test sets in advance and provide us with a summary of each set of results. We may witness a proportion of the tests as part of our audit process.
At the end of this stage, you submit full details of all test results so that our Assessment and Approval Committee can review them and make a recommendation to the Board of Directors.
3) Approval, publication and promotion of the new Robust Detail
If the proposed Robust Detail completes the assessment successfully, a design detail fee is then payable. We will then make the new Robust Detail available for use by builders as an alternative to pre-completion sound testing. This includes publishing the new Robust Detail in the Robust Details Handbook.
